Tell A Story Through Dance With Our Contemporary Classes!
Contemporary brings together various dance styles to express the meaning behind the music.
Contemporary is a popular dance style that combines various other dance styles and techniques in an expressive manner. Contemporary students will incorporate skills they are developing as a dancer to fully express themselves and captivate an audience with a story told through movement.
At DSi, Contemporary students explore their own creativity and celebrate the way each individual dancer moves. Contemporary is a nice mix between structured exercises, unison work and freedom of individuality. Students explore shapes, levels, musical dynamics, transitions, improvisation and new ways of moving.
Contemporary Students Will Develop
- Improved Understanding Of Qualities Of Movement
- Increased Physical Strength
- Improved Flexibility & Coordination
- A Creative Outlet To Explore Themes & Emotions
- Increased Confidence & Self Expression
Things to Consider
There are no prerequisites for students age 12 and under (Junior/Pre Inter Contemporary). Students registering for Inter, Senior and Advanced Contemporary, must also take a Ballet or Jazz class at DSi.
All Contemporary classes participate in our in-studio Winter Presentation Week in January as well as on stage at our Year-End Spring Showcase. This provides two performance opportunities that teach dancers how to learn and perform choreography with confidence in front of an audience!
There are no exams in Contemporary.
