Lesley Allred | Professional Ballet Dancer

I am a professional ballet dancer today only because I had the amazing opportunity to start my serious dance training at Dance Spectrum. What an amazing time I had dancing there! Thinking back on those years brings such a warm feeling to my heart. My teachers at DSI made dance fun and I’ve carried so many wonderful memories with me over the years as I’ve developed as a professional. My beautiful ballet teacher had such faith in me that at the age of eleven, with her help, I auditioned for the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School and was accepted. All of my friends and teachers at DSI threw me a huge going away party and I left home to begin my professional ballet training! I’m so grateful for everything I learnt at DSI not only in ballet classes, but also in tap, jazz, lyrical, hip hop, and musical theatre as it has made me a much more versatile ballet dancer. After seven years at the RWB I moved to Boise Idaho where I got my first job dancing with Ballet Idaho. After two seasons I followed my boyfriend (my first partner with Ballet Idaho) to Denver where he was dancing with Colorado Ballet. We were incredibly grateful to be asked to attend the New York International Ballet Competition after our first season with Ballet Idaho where I very proudly was the only competitor representing Canada. After a season of doing guest work with Colorado Ballet I will be joining the company this summer as a full-time company member. It still amazes me to this day that I am able to make a living doing what I love most. I’m just so thankful that I developed such a good base and had so much love and encouragement from my DSI home!
